Canoe Avon are hosting a marathon kayak and canoe race at the Saltford Rowing Centre on Sunday 17th November 2019. Although this is an informal test race, we aim to record and publish individual times from the race.

Divisional class races as follows:

  • Divisions 1, 2 & 3 – 12 miles singles
  • Divisions 4,5 & 6 – 8 miles singles & doubles
  • Divisions 7, 8, 9 & 10 – 4 miles singles & doubles

Race route

The race route is shown in the diagram (click diagram for larger image).

From the start outside the clubhouse, paddlers will head upstream for 2 miles towards Bath, then turn back (Turn A) to the clubhouse where divs 7, 8, 9 & 10 will finish after 4 miles.

Remaining divs will continue past the weir at the Riverside Inn, where they can portage as appropriate, before continuing downstream and turning (Turn B) just before the weir at the Jolly Sailor.

Paddlers then return past clubhouse and continue up stream turning where indicated dependant on race entered.

Rules

To be run in accordance with British Canoeing Marathon Rules. Classes may be merged where there are insufficient entries and handicaps applied.

Canoe & Kayaking are ‘assumed risks water contact sport’ that may carry attendants’ risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions / involvement. Buoyancy aids must be worn in div 7 races and below.

Competitors must render their craft to be sufficiently buoyant to remain afloat and support the crews weight in the event of a capsize.

Competitors must display a vertical number board with their race number on both sides written in 100mm high numerals.

Entry fees & registration

Race fees and registration can be completed on the day or in advance. We will only take cash on the day, but you will still be able to pay online until registration closes.

Note we’ve turned off online registrations, but you can still pay online and we’ll capture registration details when you arrive.

Entry fees for Seniors & Juniors is £10 per seat. All competitors divs 1 – 6 will be required to show a current British Canoeing membership card.

Refreshments

Refreshments will be available for sale before and after the event and will also be provided to competitors free of charge after the race.
