Prospective members who already hold a minimum of the BCU 1 Star or British Canoeing Discover Award, or those who have equivalent skills and experience are welcome to join at any time. Those new to paddling or not familiar with closed cockpit kayaks and how to self rescue must complete one of our Discover Award courses before attending club sessions. If you’re thinking of joining, please drop us a line first (see contact-us) so we know to expect you and can arrange an induction.

Beginners Course – The Discover Award

Our Discover Award is delivered to new members through two concurrent half day sessions. To review course details and make bookings, please click on the links below.

21st & 28th May 2022 (1300-1630)

23rd & 30th July 2022 (1300-1630)

The course is £20 per person and once booked, beginners must arrange club membership as detailed below. Delivery of the Discover Award is solely for beginners joining the club. Those who have not arranged club membership prior to the course will not be eligible to attend.


Annual membership is a rolling membership which entitles you to use club equipment and facilities. We do not charge additional fee for using equipment at the club.


  • Adult membership is £50 per year
  • Junior membership is £30 per year
  • Family membership is £135 per year and covers up to 4 members


Juniors 12 years or over (or those in year 7 or above at school) are welcome to join provided they are accompanied by an adult family member.

Club Policies

The club has a number of policies that members are required to follow. Prospective members should at least familiarise themselves with the code of conduct and standard operating procedures as a minimum before joining.


We use the British Canoeing Membership & Events Portal to manage club membership. To join Canoe Avon, you need to follow a 2-step process:

  1. Step 1 – Register yourself as a prospective member by following this link to the club’s page on the British Canoeing membership portal: Members of British Canoeing can alternatively search for the club through the portal ‘club finder’ tool.
  2. Step 2 – Once registered, select and pay for your club membership. Membership options are available under the Membership tab n the portal. Please note that if no membership is selected within 2 weeks of registration, then registration will be rescinded.

Boat Storage

We may be able to offer personal boat storage for members depending on the size and type of boat. Boat storage is subject to availability at site and committee members must be contacted before purchase is made to confirm space is available for your boat.

Please note that while the site is fairly well secured, we cannot accept any liability for loss or damage to personal equipment stored. Members are strongly advised to arrange their own insurance when storing equipment.

Boat storage fees are £50 per boat and can be paid through BACS transfer. Please see our Treasurer for details.
